Watermelon is cultivated in most parts of Iran whether in dry farm or aquaculture, in north provinces of Iran, Sistan and Baluchestan, Khuzestan, Hormozgan and Fars. The best kind of exporting watermelon is watermelon of Chabahar in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
Watermelon, just like any other vegetable, in cold seasons cultivates in Dezful and Bandar Abbas, spring in Shiraz and Isfahan, and in summer cultivates in Karaj and Hamedan.
Export seed of watermelon is called B32 which is oval and striped and weights between 7-14 kg. Watermelon can't be stored in cold storages or warehouses and transportation is with refrigerator container and launch.
Packing can be in different types:
1. Styrofoam is put on the floor and sides of container and watermelon is loaded in bulk form.
2. With large pallet boxes of 1x1.20x1 m
3. Luxury and super which watermelon is in double cartons in carton pallets.
In order of transportation the temperature of refrigerator should be 4-5 degrees. Fresh watermelon can be kept 30-45 days outdoor.
